Hi, I’m Andrew—and I’m figuring it out one step (and snack) at a time.
I started MoodyMessyHungry.com as a blog about gardening and geocaching. But in 2023, something changed. Actually—a lot of things changed.
At 37, I found myself sitting in a doctor’s office staring down some pretty scary numbers:
-
A1C of 10.9
-
Cholesterol at 238
-
Triglycerides through the roof at 561
-
HDL low, LDL not great
-
Weight at 260 pounds
It was the kind of health report that slaps you in the face and whispers, “You can’t ignore this anymore.”
So I didn’t.
But I also didn’t suddenly join a gym or start a juice cleanse. That’s just not me.
Instead, I decided to approach this differently: slowly, honestly, and on my own terms. I leaned into walking, geocaching, trying healthier meals, and learning how to take care of myself without trying to be perfect.
This blog is where I share that journey—the messy parts, the small victories, the meals I actually eat, and the numbers I’m working to bring down. You’ll find:
-
Honest updates about my health (A1C, cholesterol, blood pressure, and weight)
-
Healthy-ish recipes that don’t involve ingredients I can’t pronounce
-
Geocaching adventures as my favorite “sneaky exercise”
-
A gym-free approach to movement and motivation
-
Posts about how hard (and sometimes funny) this all can be
This isn’t a weight loss blog. This is a feel-better blog.
I’m not here to pretend I have it all figured out. I’m here to show up, share what’s real, and cheer on anyone else who’s starting from a place that feels a little scary.
Whether you’re here for the food, the honesty, the encouragement—or you’re just someone who wants to improve their health without giving up their humanity—you’re in the right place.
Thanks for being here. Let’s get well, together.
